How to Get rid of Tan Lines Fast & Naturally

While many strive for that perfect sun-kissed tan, what people don't usually strive for is the tan lines that can accompany it. Trying a few easy steps at home can help you minimize embarrassing tan lines, while holding on to that golden summer look.

1. Mix about two cups of pure sea salt with a cup of almond or olive oil, then hop in the shower and use the grainy mixture to exfoliate skin. This will help remove dead skin cells and over time will decrease intensity of tan lines. You can do this daily or every other day to until tan lines are gone.

2. Dry off skin thoroughly, then apply a moisturizer with a touch of self tanner to tan lines. Some popular brands are Vaseline and Dove moisturizers with self tanner. They usually range from light tan to dark, so make sure you compare and pick the best for your specific shade of tan. For any facial tan lines, use a facial moisturizer with tint or just add a pinch of bronzing powder to your normal moisturizer.

3. Apply bronzer. If self tanner hasn't evened out your tan lines enough to your liking, you can apply a powder bronzer. Do a light application, as you don't want to end up making your tan lines darker than your actual tan. Don't apply it anywhere you will be covering with clothing, as it can stain clothes and is unnecessary. You can also purchase a spray on bronzer which may be easier application.

Something more to Try:

Okay so first thing first whatever you do don't exfoliate your skin as some people will suggest because you may not think of this now but what exfoliating your skin does is it take off the "tanned skin cells" otherwise known as your superficial skin cells and once you take them off your body starts to replicate your skin cells to produce more skin cells and in replicating your skin cells it causes the cells "life" to become shorter. In other terms your skin is aging faster. So my advice to you is start applying sunblock if you haven't so already and continually apply sunblock throughout the course of your time being outside. No the tan lines will not go away immediately trust me I run Track and Field and Cross country and I still have tan lines but you can reduce your risk of sun cancer which I think in the long run is a lot worse than worrying about some silly tan lines.

More to Try!

  1. The Tanee Tan Line Corrector is basically "tan in a squeeze bottle" that will help camouflage your unsightly tan lines. Apply the self-tanner formula to the areas that need to be darkened and within a few hours, you shouldn't see any more lines. Repeat the process if certain areas need to be darkened further.
  2. Exfoliating dead skin cells will help speed up the fading process. However, if your skin is burned or irritated, do not exfoliate and heal your sunburn first. Gently use body exfoliators or loofahs in the shower at night, and follow up with a moisturizing lotion.
  3. The wonders of makeup can cover up anything, including your tan line. For a small area to cover, use a concealer brush and pat a thick layer of foundation or concealer over the lightest areas. Make sure your cover up shade matches the skin surrounding the tan line and blend it in until it's unnoticeable. For larger areas, use a larger foundation brush and layer on the cover up until you achieve your desired look. Regardless of whether the patch is big or small, always set the foundation or concealer with bronzer or translucent powder and you're good to go. If you'll be out and about, make sure to bring the foundation or concealer with you for touch ups.
